kuk.art — Holzhausen Artist Colony

Context

Holzhausen am Ammersee has been home to many artists over the decades. The Künstlerkolonie (artist colony) needed a digital encyclopedia to preserve and present this cultural heritage, allowing visitors to browse artists and discover their work. The site serves a local audience in Bavaria, Germany, and is in German only.

Challenge

The platform needed to catalog a diverse body of content: artist profiles with biographical information, artwork entries with detailed metadata, thematic explorations, and historical narratives. The content team required an intuitive back-office to manage and expand the site continuously as new artists and works are discovered and documented.

Approach

I designed and built the platform in close collaboration with the client and a graphic designer, iterating progressively on both architecture and visual design. The frontend is built with React and TypeScript, delivering a visually immersive browsing experience. The backend runs on Strapi, providing the editorial team with a flexible CMS to manage content independently.

Key features:

  • Artist profiles with biographies and linked artworks
  • Artwork catalog with detailed metadata
  • Simple search engine to explore artists and works
  • Thematic content sections and historical narratives
  • Cookie consent and GDPR compliance

Result

The platform is live at kuk.art and serves as the digital encyclopedia of the Holzhausen Artist Colony. The editorial team actively manages and expands the content, with new artist portraits and artworks being added on an ongoing basis.
